Amazing Race 14, Episode 10

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Starting this week’s Realty TV show of the Amazing Race, we find from the 9th Pit Stop on the race around the world, that Kisha & Jen (Sisters) departed at 1:48 PM. Tammy & Victor (Siblings Lawyers) were the and team to depart at 1:49 PM. Margie & Luke (Mother/Son) were the 3rd team to depart at 1:50 PM. Jaime & Cara (Former NFL Cheerleaders) were the last team to depart at 2:12 PM.

Teams must now fly over 1,000 miles to the city of Beijing, China, home of the 2008 Summer Olympic games. Once there, they must make their way to a foot massage spa where they will find their next clue.

All four teams were on the same flight, but Tammy & Victor, who speak the language, were able to get seated the closest to the front of the plane (row 5) and told the people at the counter to seat their competition in the back of the plane. So Jaime & Cara were stuck in the last row of the plane, and were the last to get off. But these Cheerleaders were able to find a taxi cab driver that would drive very fast, and pass the other teams on the highway, plus knew exactly where to go. So this put them in first place as they received the first clue.

Road Block: One member of the team must take part in a traditional Chinese foot massage to heal the body. That person must first drink a special tea and then experience a foot massage that walks a thin line
between pleasure and pain. If the person can endure the massage for 10 minutes, they must drink another cup of tea to receive their next clue.

If they say “uncle” to stop the massage due to great pain, they must then start over. Jaime & Cara were the first team to start the foot massage, then Kisha & Jen, Tammy & Victor, and last were Margie & Luke. After crying over the painful foot massage, Cara finished first and the cheerleaders received their next clue.
Teams must now make their way to Guanggai, Natatorium, and find their next clue. As it turns out, Tammy & Victor are the first team to arrive

at the next clue. Knowing the language helped them find the right taxi cab driver who knew the way. Detour: Sink or Swim. In sink, teams try to master the skill of synchronized diving by jumping off 3 meter spring boards together, and hitting the water in perfect unison. When they perform a jump where they
hit the water simultaneously, and they receive a passing score of “5” from the judges, they will receive their next clue.

In Swim, teams must change into speedo suits and swim eight lengths of the pool in a 400 meter relay. Team members must alternate every 2 lengths and compete against Michael Phelps’ time in the 400 meter of 4:03.84. While teams do not have to beat his time, they must each complete 200 meters of the relay to receive their next clue.

Jaime & Cara decided to do the swim task first, which paid off for them as they were the first team to finish and receive their next clue. But Tammy & Victor could not complete the “Dive” so switched to the “Swim”
event which put them behind. Margie & Luke did the “Swim” task first, and both could swim very well, and were the 2nd team to receive their next clue.

Teams must now race across town by taxi to Drum Tower. This is the Pit Stop of this leg of the race.

The Sisters, Kisha & Jen, tried “Dive” and failed, then tried “Swim” and failed, then went back to “Dive” and failed again. Jen started to cry and told Kisha she just wanted to go home. Neither of the sisters were
swimmers. But Kisha talked Jen into finishing strong by going back to the “Swim”. Both Sisters put on Life Jackets and paddled across the pool like a couple of uncoordinated 4 year-old children! Needless to say,
they were the very last team to finish this “Detour.”

The former NFL cheerleaders, Jaime & Cara, were worried about whether their taxi cab driver knew the way to Drum Tower, as they have not had very good luck with drivers during this race. However, he did know where it was and they beat out Margie & Luke. The cheerleaders were the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop. Then Phil said, “Guys, this leg of the race is not over. You are still racing. Here is your next clue.” So this week’s Realty TV show of the Amazing Race ends with a “To Be Continued.”

Episode 9 of Amazing Race 14

The Realty TV Show Amazing Race started out this week from the 8th Pit Stop, Margie & Luke were the first team to depart at 9:36AM.  Teams must now fly over 1,000 miles to Guilin, China.  When they land, teams are to travel by taxi to the street called Qing Xiu Lu and find a hair salon where they will find their next clue.

Mark & Michael were the last team to depart at 4:08 PM.  They will also have to perform a Speed Bump task for finishing in last place of this Pit Stop.  No other team will be performing this task.  They are about 4 hours behind everybody else.  They believe they just need to make some right decisions in order to stay in the game.

Jaime & Cara were the first team to arrive at the hair salon and receive their first clue.  Teams must now travel to the #24 bridge where they will find their next clue.

Road Block:  One team member has to take part in a fishing task.  Teams take a raft out to the middle of the river and have trained birds retrieve fish.  Once they catch 10 fish, the trainer will hand them their next clue.

In the Speed Bump, Mark & Michael must work as stylist at the salon, washing and drying the hair of two waiting women.  Whey they finish, they can continue on the race and hope to make up valuable lost time.

Kisha & Jen took over first place.  Teams must now race to a one thousand year old structure called Ancient South Gate.  There they will find their next clue.

Detour:  Choose between two tasks of Choreography or Calligraphy.  In Choreography, teams must participate in dancing.  They are to join a local group and learn their dance.  Then perform the dance together in front of a pair of judges, and upon perfectly performing the steps with the correct moves, will receive from the judge their next clue.

In Calligraphy, teams are to copy a series of Chinese characters which form the name of the part of their next station.  Whey they reach their fourth and final station, the artist will hand them their next clue.

Tammy & Victor, who are Chinese, were the first team to finish.  The clue was to travel to the next Pit Stop.  Teams must make their way to Banyan Lake and find the view that is depicted in the picture of their clue.  The lakeside spot is the pit stop of this leg of the race.

Kisha & Jen were Team number one, Tammy & Victor Team number two, and Margie & Luke Team number three.  All three of these Teams finished within seconds of each other.

Jaime & Cara performed the dancing task while the first 3 teams who finished did the Calligraphy task.  The dancing put them behind.  The judges kept saying no, but could not speak English and explain to them what was wrong.  They kept dancing, and eventually were given their next clue.  They were therefore the fourth team to check-in to the Pit Stop.

Mark & Michael also chose the dancing task.  But, they were in last place and finished last at the Pit Stop.  Phil then checked them in and informed the brothers that they have been eliminated from the race.  They were still both grateful to have been part of this race.  For this realty TV show of Amazing Race 14, will are therefore down to only four teams where the competition can get fierce.

Episode 8 of Amazing Race 14

The Realty TV Show Amazing Race starts out this week at the point of last episode’s Pit Stop, Phuket, Thailand, we find Tammy & Victor who were the first team to arrive at 9:27AM, departed at 9:27PM.  Victor & Tammy want to take it one leg at a time.  Leg 3 showed them how you can go from 1st place to last place so easily.  Jaime & Cara were the 2nd Team to depart @ 12:31AM.  They said the language barrier really frustrated them.

Teams must now fly over 400 miles to the city of Bangkok, Thailand.  When they land, they are to travel by taxi to the outskirts of town and find a boat yard.  They then must search the grounds for their next clue.  As it turns out, all five team were on the same flight to Bangkok.

On the way to the boat yard, Kisha & Jen, sisters, got lost in their taxi as the driver didn’t know where the boat yard was located.  At the boat yard, the clue was a Road Block:  One person must tap into their mechanical abilities and apply them to transportation, “the long tail boat.”  Teams must figure out how to join a rod to its propeller, which will only work if secured the right way.  When it works properly, they will receive their next clue.

Victor’s propeller did not work, and had to go back to fix it, making them now in last place for leaving the docks.  Margie & Luke, mother/son, were the first team to leave the docks.  It was Margie who figured out how to install the propeller properly.

The next clue says teams must now navigate their boats through the Bangkok canals, using the map and their clue, to search and locate the Peninsula Pier.  There, they will find their next clue.

Margie & Luke were the first team to arrive at the Peninsula, and found the next clue.  A Detour:  Teams have to choose between 2 very routine activities.  The choice is broken teeth or broken record.

In broken teeth, teams make their way to the street of happy smiles.  Once there, they must search through 50 sets of dentures to find good matches for five of the waiting patients.  When all their patients are smiling, they will receive their next clue.

In broken record, teams must make their way to a parking lot and choose a party taxi equipped with an onboard karaoke system.  Then, while riding along a 5 mile course, they join with a group of locals and sing repeatedly to a well know Thai pop video until they reach their destination.

We find that the brothers, Mark & Michael, left their bags at the boat docks, and had to pay 200 to be driven back to pick up their bags.  This is a major mistake for them.

Margie and Luke were the only team that chose to do broken teeth, and it paid off for them as they finished before all the other teams.  Their next clue was to make their way to the next Pit Stop, Phya Thai Palace.  The last team to check-in may be eliminated.

Margie & Luke became team number one at the Pit Stop, and won a free trip to Puerto Rico.  Kisha & Jen finished the karaoke task, but had no money for a taxi to the Pit Stop because they also left their bags and a fanny pack at the boat docks.  Again, this was a very costly mistake.  They finally found a taxi that agreed to take them to the Pit Stop for free.

Jaime & Cara arrived at the Pit Stop as Team number two.  Kisha & Jen arrived 3rd, but did not have their travel documents with them, so Phil told them they had to go back and get them before being checked in.  Victor & Tammy were 4th, but were bumped up to 3rd place because they did have their bags and travel documents with them.

Mark & Michael were the 4th team to arrive, but incurred a 2 hour penalty for using personal possessions to settle their taxi bills (for having to travel back to the boat docks for the bags was costly).  They did it twice, so had a total penalty of 4 hours to wait before being checked in by Phil.

Kisha & Jen then became the 4th team to arrive.  Mark & Michael were then checked in as the last team to arrive.  However, it was a non-elimination leg, and they are still in the race.  They are also given a Speed Bump to complete on the next leg, which is a task that only they must complete before continuing on the race course.  They said that they will just have to play it at the best of their abilities.

We have seen items left behind before in previous seasons of this Realty TV show, which proved to be costly for those teams.  Yet again this season, we see two teams leaving their valuables behind.  Why would anybody leave their stuff behind in a strange country, in an unknown location?  Are these teams starting to think they are celebrities now, just because a camera is following them around?  It is obvious to us viewers that these two teams, (Kisha & Jen, and Mark & Michael), just are not thinking straight and will not be winning this game for this season if they continue to not use common sense!
